1. JEE Main Rank is the Entry Ticket
All 31 NIT seats are allocated through JoSAA based on your JEE Main All India Rank (AIR). You need to appear in JEE Main and obtain a rank to be eligible for JoSAA NIT counselling.
2. Home State vs Other State Quota
50% of NIT seats are under Home State (HS) quota, reserved for students who completed 12th standard in the same state as the NIT. The remaining 50% are Other State (OS) quota open to all. HS cutoff ranks are typically 20–40% more accessible than OS cutoffs.
3. Choice List Strategy
Fill as many college-branch combinations as possible (50–100+ preferences). List your preferred safe choices first. JoSAA allocates based on your choices in priority order.
